We made a better Tire Liner, but even we were
surprised how much better!
In 2009 we started testing plastics used in the
building industry to achieve a tougher liner. A tire
liner needs to have only one function: to prevent
puncture flats while adding as little weight as
possible.
After some experimenting, we ran our first batch for
testing. Using an apparatus that allowed the slow
addition of weight behind a round toothpick
(actually pretty tough little things). We were
astonished at the results.
The three competing brands we tested allowed
penetration at weights between 4 and 8 lbs. (The "4"
being a recently introduced lightweight offering.)
We kept adding weight until at 25lbs. the toothpick
snapped! We re-ran the test several times on
different samples, but the results were mostly
consistent.
